The useful takeawayCompare a defined task and a reproducible test. Keep vendor claims, public availability and independent benchmark evidence in separate columns.

The release pages are not the same kind of evidence

OpenAI’s 7 October announcement focuses on GPT-6 in ChatGPT and a feature it calls Intelligent UI: interactive, visual answers and task-specific interfaces. Anthropic’s 7 October launch page positions Claude Haiku 5.5 as a fast, cost-sensitive model and publishes vendor-run benchmark results. Google’s model catalog organizes its Gemini and specialized model families.

These pages answer different questions. A user-interface feature is not a model benchmark; a vendor benchmark table is not an independent evaluation; and a catalog page is not a dated product launch report.

Why “which model is best?” is too broad

A useful comparison starts with one task, such as extracting a figure from a long filing, editing a photograph or navigating a website. Then record the exact model ID, product surface, date, reasoning or effort setting, tool access, prompt, scoring rule and cost assumptions.

A model can lead one benchmark and still be a poor fit for a different task. Even one vendor’s benchmark may use a particular test subset, tool setting or scoring process. Compare like with like and label vendor results as vendor-reported.

A reader’s scorecard

Before adopting a release claim, ask four questions: Is the feature available in the product and region I use? Does the named model actually power it? Was the relevant task tested under a comparable protocol? Can I reproduce the result on my own examples without exposing sensitive data?

For now, the source pages establish what each company announced. They do not establish a neutral ranking across all systems. We will add benchmark comparisons only when the protocol, sample and evaluator are clear enough to explain.

Scope and limits

The summaries of product positioning are vendor statements. We do not claim an independent benchmark result or an overall model winner in this article.
